Trying to Be – A random music collab about attachment theory

Here is a brand-new song from the studio. As every year, we teamed up with four random musicians to create a song based on four tracks. Here is this year’s outcome!

One of my personal highlights is a songwriting game I play with indie musicians: write a song with randomly assigned musicians. Like on the four track cassettes, everybody contributes one instrument to a song. Nobody knows which instrument the next person will add, you could end up in whatever genre and writing about whatever absurdity.

This time, RobinLeaf started with vocals. She has been inspired by psychology and wrote a lyric based on an avoidant character who is working on their flaws. I harmonized her vocal recording with a piano, envisioning a dramatic ballad. When Ken Mattsson added a harmonic layer of vocals, I decided to turn it into a duet. Last but not least, Paul Benham added soundscape magic with the guitars. Thank you so much for joining the game and contributing your parts.

For now, our song “Trying to Be” is only available on YouTube. Robin will record her version with a ukulele that may use completely different chords. We are so psyched to hear this version as well!
